Le professeur Chau a re\u00e7u une bourse du gouvernement fran\u00e7ais en 1990 pour \u00e9tudier les math\u00e9matiques en France et a pass\u00e9 deux ans \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 Pierre et Marie Curie \u00e0 Paris. Il a ensuite \u00e9tudi\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00c9cole normale sup\u00e9rieure de Paris et a obtenu un doctorat de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Paris-Sud en 1997. En 2010, il est devenu professeur \u00e0 l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 de Chicago.
