Fabriqu\u00e9 \u00e0 partir de nanotubes de carbone et de cellulose, l&rsquo;a\u00e9rogel poss\u00e8de de minuscules pores verticaux qui augmentent l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;\u00e9vaporation, m\u00eame \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle. Lors d&rsquo;essais en plein air, il a flott\u00e9 sur de l&rsquo;eau de mer et l&rsquo;a transform\u00e9e en eau potable en \u00e9vaporant de la vapeur d&rsquo;eau pure qui s&rsquo;est condens\u00e9e sur un couvercle.
