A new study indicates that a geoengineering technique to cool the planet by adding particles to the atmosphere could be achieved using existing aircraft. Simulations showed that injecting particles 13 km above the polar regions could cool the planet. This is less effective than injections at higher altitudes near the equator but doesn’t require specialized aircraft. Existing commercial jets like the Boeing 777F could reach these altitudes. This approach offers a potentially faster way to combat climate change.
