Smart Gate Enables Reliable Hydrogen Production from Seawater

Scientists discovered a smart polymer coating that allows hydrogen to be produced directly from seawater without damaging the catalyst. The material acts like a selective gate, letting useful ions pass while blocking harmful ones that cause corrosion and clogging. This design allowed electrolyzers to run for more than 1,500 hours with performance similar to pure-water systems. The breakthrough could help scale green hydrogen production in water-scarce regions.
