Tomato Nutrient Linked to Lower Risk of Gum Disease

10 2 月 2026

Researchers discovered that low intake of lycopene, an antioxidant found in tomatoes, may increase the risk of severe gum disease in older adults. Seniors who consumed enough lycopene showed about one-third the risk of serious periodontitis compared to those with low intake. The study also found higher disease rates among men and some racial groups. Scientists suggest that improving lycopene consumption may support better gum health, though more research is needed.
