Researchers have developed pneumatic propellers powered by air motors that could replace diesel engines in ferry boats. The air motors, generating 250 kW each, powered a ferry on a predetermined route in Finland. This technology offers a cleaner, quieter, and more cost-effective alternative to conventional marine engines, especially for short-distance operations. The pneumatic system can be integrated into the ferry’s body, enhancing buoyancy. This innovation promises a sustainable and energy-efficient solution for maritime transport.
