Researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health discovered that U.S. counties located closer to nuclear power plants showed higher cancer death rates compared to areas farther away. The nationwide study analyzed data from 2000–2018 while accounting for factors such as income, smoking, obesity, and access to healthcare. Although the findings do not prove nuclear plants cause cancer, scientists say the results highlight the need for further investigation into possible long-term health effects.
