Engineers discover a new class of materials that passively harvest water from air

29 مايو 2025

Engineers at MIT have developed a new class of polymer-based materials that can passively extract water from the air, even in arid conditions. These materials, composed of modified cellulose, can absorb water vapor and then release it as liquid water when heated slightly by sunlight. The materials could be used to create self-watering agricultural systems or provide potable water in remote areas. The research opens new avenues for sustainable water harvesting technologies.
