Japan Prepares for Possible Recovery of SLIM Moon Lander

11 February 2024

Japan is making preparations for the potential recovery of its SLIM “Smart Lander for Investigating Moon” moon lander after its solar panels failed to generate electricity on the lunar surface. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced that although the lander’s battery power dipped to 12% capacity, it has not been declared dead, and there is still hope for a possible recovery. If sunlight begins to shine on the lunar surface from the west, there is a possibility of generating power, and the team is actively working towards that goal. Further updates on SLIM’s status and data analyses are expected soon.
