Lab-Grown Spinal Cord Shows Promise for Injury Repair

Researchers at Northwestern University developed a realistic mini-human spinal cord to study traumatic injuries. After applying a therapy using fast-moving “dancing molecules,” nerve fibers regrew and scar tissue was reduced. The treatment, which has received special designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, may help restore function in spinal cord injury patients in the future.
