A new design for vertical walls could help buildings stay cool even as global temperatures rise. Researchers have found that adding zigzags to walls can reduce daily average wall temperatures by a couple of degrees Celsius. This is because the zigzags reflect both incoming solar radiation and heat from the ground, while also emitting heat back into space.
