NASA Restores Communication with Mars Helicopter Ingenuity after Communications Dropout

7 February 2024

NASA has successfully regained contact with the Mars helicopter Ingenuity after experiencing a communications dropout during its latest flight. Ingenuity had been on its 72nd flight when contact was lost, causing uncertainty about its fate. However, NASA’s Perseverance rover conducted long-duration listening sessions to locate Ingenuity’s signal, leading to the restoration of communication. The team is now analyzing the data to understand the cause of the dropout. Ingenuity’s mission of gathering information about controlling an airborne vehicle on Mars has exceeded expectations, and it continues to capture crucial images of the Martian surface.
